Venting Options

Direct Vent

Direct vent fireplaces draw combustion air from the outdoors and exhaust their combustion products to the outdoors—eliminating the need for a chimney. The combustion system should be sealed from the living area to assure high air quality, maximum efficiency and trouble-free operation in today's tightly insulated homes.

Mendota's sealed combustion, direct vent system draws air for combustion from outside the home into a sealed firebox. Exhaust is expelled through a separate vent. Room air is heated and recirculated. The system keeps warm air in and cold air out.

Vent Free

Another industry option is vent-free, ventless or unvented gas fireplaces. This kind of fireplace is designed to draw and expel combustion gasses and moisture directly into the room. While some manufacturers claim that vent-free fireplaces burn hot enough for complete fuel combustion, we've found that carbon monoxide gasses can still linger in your living area. At Mendota, we do not manufacture this type of gas fireplace. In fact, fireplaces and stoves without proper ventilation are illegal in many states and municipalities.

Mendota Heat Transfer Systems

With your Mendota gas fireplace or insert, you have the best choice of heat management solutions for your home. Mendota Heat Transfer Systems take heat from your fireplace and move it where you want—and it all happens hidden from sight within your walls.

Mendota Cool Wall

Mendota Cool Wall redistributes warm air above the fireplace to take heat off of walls and nearby areas—while the firebox still delivers focused warmth. Plus, create even more design possibilities for your home with the option to place your TV or artwork as close as 15" above the fireplace.*

Cool Wall

*NOTE: Running the convection fans will increase wall temperature. The TV can be mounted as low as 15" above the fireplace with the convection fans turned OFF. To use fans with Mendota Cool Wall installed, ensure your TV or decorations are placed 24" or more above the fireplace.

Versiheat

Versiheat moves a portion of heat to the rooms you use most. Warm air travels up to 25' from the fireplace through ducts with their own blowers and thermostats. Mendota fireplaces can use up to two Versiheat kits to transfer heat to up to two other rooms on the same floor, upstairs or downstairs.

Versaheat

FlexHeat

With the most air flow capacity, FlexHeat redirects heat to another room or even outside—so you can use your fireplace in the summer or warm climates without unwanted heat. Specific Mendota fireplaces can use a FlexHeat kit to transport up to 95% of convection heat to where you want it.

Gas Fireplace Insert

If you would like to enhance the look and feel of an existing fireplace, choose a gas fireplace insert. A fireplace insert is an insulated, closed-door system that slows the fire down and increases the temperature of the fire to facilitate more complete combustion. This closed combustion system uses 100% outside air, preserving indoor air quality and maximizing efficiency. In fact, a gas fireplace produces less than 1% of the harmful particulate emissions of woodburning fireplaces.

Mendota's inserts turn an occasional source of heat into an easy-to-use room centerpiece. Fireplace inserts are made from cast iron or steel with glass doors. So you can watch the dancing flames while increasing the efficiency rating of your fireplace.
